The Marketplace

The MARKETPLACE is a dedicated space at the event where symposium attendees can consign for sale and shop for linen-related items.  25% of all sales will go to support the Museum and 75% to the consignor.

  • All items should be flax/linen-focused.
  • If you’re planning to consign, you must drop-off and pick-up your items according to the Marketplace schedule (see below).  If you plan on arriving or leaving outside these times, you may not be permitted to consign.
  • Marketplace will not be liable for damage, breakage or theft of items.
  • Marketplace has the right to decline items that do not meet the requirements stated herein.

Acceptable flax-related items such as: flax spinning wheels (limit 2), distaffs, textile tools, spinning fiber, spun thread, vintage linen items, supplies, dyestuffs, books, prints, miscellaneous collectibles

  • Items should be clean and in good working order/usable condition.
  • Loose items (ex: fiber, thread) should be placed in some type of clear zip-top bag.
  • Marketplace has the right to decline items that are not flax-related, improperly/ incompletely tagged, or due to space constraints.

Consignor is responsible for correctly tagging items ahead of time as follows:

  • Keep your prices simple – even dollar amounts (ex: $4 not 3.99).
  • Items must be double-tagged.  We'll have some tagging supplies available, but please do this before arriving.
  • Choose the type of tag that’s best for your item - tags on strings, labels, sticky notes, etc.
  • Make sure tags are securely attached to your items – but keep in mind one of the tags must be removed during check-out.
  • On your tags include:  Item description, your full name, asking price. Also list any specific conditions  (ex: as-is, missing parts, damaged, stained, etc.)  Example:  Antique Spinning Wheel (treadle missing), Jane Smith, $125
  • If you would like to accept a best-offer on an item, put your phone number on the back of the tags and we will text you.

Marketplace staff will handle all sales within the Marketplace. The space will be manned at all times and locked after hours.

  • Buyers must pay by cash, credit card, or check made payable to NMAC.
  • Consignors will receive 75% of the sale amount; the Museum will receive 25%.  6% PA sales tax will be charged on all items.

After the end of the event, the Museum will calculate the amount due to each consignor and afterwards, mail the consignor a check for their proceeds.

  • NOTE: Consignors must be willing to accept this payment schedule – to be paid sometime after the event is over.

We may need to limit the number of items you can consign due to space constraints. As an option, you may consign these items personally and "tail-gate" from your car.

  • We would request that you make a donation on those sales to the Museum (suggested 25%).

See the chart below that shows the times you can drop your items off.

  • We ask that you stay within this drop-off schedule to not disturb our on-going programs.

We have tried to provide as much "shopping time" during a very busy program.  Most shopping time will be in the evenings, and all day Sunday until 3 pm.

  • See the chart below that shows the hours that the Marketplace will be open.
  • We will strive to maintain open hours as published, but this may be subject to change.

  • Consignors must come to the Marketplace from 3-4 pm to check out and pick up any unsold items. Any unclaimed items will be donated to the Museum.
  • Payment will be mailed to you after the event is over.  We will be busy post-event so ask for your patience. You will receive a check from the Museum made out to you and mailed to the address you provided during registration.
